Gold fish color change in darkness----------Goldfish change color for one of two reasons. The first is a lack of sunlight, which ends up retarding the pigmentation cells in the fish's scales that are responsible for color. This causes a fish to become lighter or white in color. The second reason is for a darkening in scale color. This is because due to irritation of the skin the fish's body releases a chemical called leukine which stimulates color pigmentation cells. Especially melanophores (black pigmentation cells) thus causing the fish to have abnormally high amount of black pigmentation.
